The Problem

Why do freelance developers put up with scheduling by email?

You automate other people's workflows all day, then spend twenty minutes agreeing a 30-minute call over email, converting time zones in your head. Most booking tools would fix that, but they come as closed services with scripts you would never ship on your own site. Tymeslot is open source under the GNU AGPLv3. Its booking pages load no ad trackers or third-party analytics, the managed service runs in Germany, and you can run the same code yourself with Docker.

What a developer wants from a booking page

A freelance developer's meetings are few but varied: a free discovery call with a prospect, a paid hour reviewing someone's code, a weekly sync with a client on retainer. They happen across time zones, and bookings need to reach the rest of your tools, whether that is an issue tracker, a CRM or a Slack channel.

Tymeslot covers that without much setup. Each kind of meeting gets its own type, link and length. Visitors see your slots in their own time zone, detected from the browser. Video links are created automatically, including in self-hosted Jitsi or MiroTalk if you prefer those to Google Meet or Zoom. Webhooks fire when a meeting is booked, requested, declined, cancelled or rescheduled, and each request is signed so you can verify it. On the managed service, webhooks and payments are part of Pro; self-hosted, everything is included.

Features

Everything Developers need. Nothing they don't.

Scheduling features shaped around how your practice works.

🔐

Open Source, No Ad Trackers

The code is public under the GNU AGPLv3. Booking pages load no advertising trackers, and the managed service counts page views with its own cookieless, self-hosted analytics. On tymeslot.app, Google reCAPTCHA loads once a client starts the booking form, to block spam bookings.

⚙️

Signed Webhooks and Chat Alerts

Send booking, cancellation and reschedule events to your own endpoint, signed with HMAC, or post them to Slack or Telegram. A Pro feature on the managed service.

🌍

Time Zones Handled

The booking page detects the visitor's time zone from their browser and shows your availability in their local time. You see every booking in yours.

🎥

Video Links on Your Terms

Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Jitsi, MiroTalk, kMeet or Nextcloud Talk: a room is created for each booking, so you never paste a link by hand.

🔗

Embed on Your Portfolio

Add the booking page to your own site as an inline calendar, a popup or a floating button, so a prospect books without leaving your contact page.

📅

A Meeting Type per Engagement

Discovery call, paid code review, weekly client sync: each gets its own length, link and questions, and private types stay off your public page.

Before & After

See the difference

Same profession. Completely different scheduling experience.

Without Tymeslot

1 Prospect emails asking for a call about their project
2 Three rounds of time zone arithmetic to agree a slot
3 Video link pasted into an invite, then copied into your tracker by hand

With Tymeslot

1 Prospect books from the contact page of your portfolio
2 Picks a slot shown in their own time zone, video link included
3 A webhook drops the booking into your tracker or Slack
Use Cases

Common scheduling scenarios

How other Developers use Tymeslot every day.

Scenario 1

How do freelance developers turn portfolio visits into booked calls?

A prospect reads a case study on your site and wants to talk. If the next step is an email and a wait, many will not take it. A booking page on the same site turns interest into a date.

  • Create a 30-minute "Discovery call" with 24 hours' notice and a booking horizon of three weeks.
  • Embed it on your contact page as an inline calendar, or as a floating button across the whole site.
  • Ask for a link to the project or repository, a URL question that is a Pro feature on the managed service, so you can look before the call.
  • A video link is created automatically, and the prospect sees every slot in their own time zone.
Result: Prospects book while they are still reading your work, and you join the call having seen theirs.
Scenario 2

How do developers run weekly syncs with retainer clients?

Retainer clients need a regular slot, and you need it not to eat into focused work. A private meeting type with its own schedule keeps syncs inside the hours you choose.

  • Create a 30-minute "Client sync" meeting type and hide it from your public page.
  • Give it an availability schedule covering only the hours you set aside for calls, for example Monday and Thursday afternoons.
  • Send the direct link to the client, and allow guests so their product owner or designer can join.
  • Reminder emails go out at the times you choose, and the client reschedules from the confirmation if the week changes.
Result: Client syncs land in the hours you reserved for them, and your mornings stay free for code.
Scenario 3

How do developers connect bookings to the rest of their tooling?

A booking is the start of some work: an issue to open, a lead to add, a channel to notify. Webhooks hand each one to the tools you already run.

  • Add a webhook endpoint in Tymeslot and choose the events you want: meeting created, requested, declined, cancelled or rescheduled.
  • Verify each delivery against its HMAC signature before you trust the payload.
  • Turn the payload into an issue, a CRM entry or a calendar block in your own code, or post it to Slack or Telegram without writing any.
  • On the managed service this needs Pro; self-hosted, webhooks are included.
Result: Each new booking appears where you will act on it, without copying anything by hand.

Intake questions

  • Link to the project, repository or current site
  • What is the stack, roughly?
  • What would you like to get out of the call?
  • Is there a deadline or launch date?

Ask for a link rather than credentials or code; if a review needs repository access, arrange it after the booking. Client syncs use shorter notice and a different set of hours, so give them their own availability schedule.

Intake questions and payments at booking are part of Pro on the managed service, and free when you self-host.

How to choose

What to check before you choose

  • Find out where client data is stored and whether a data processing agreement comes with your plan.
  • Work out the cost at your firm's size: per-seat pricing grows with every colleague.
  • Check that the tool syncs with the calendar standard your firm uses, such as CalDAV.
  • See whether you can take a fee or retainer at booking, and on which plan.
  • Try embedding the booking page on your firm's website.
  • Ask how you would export your data if you left.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Tymeslot GDPR compliant for freelance developers?

Because Tymeslot is open source, a freelance developer can read exactly what it does with client data, and the managed booking page is hosted in Germany with no advertising trackers or third-party analytics; GDPR compliance still depends on how you handle clients' data. On tymeslot.app, Google reCAPTCHA loads once a client starts filling in the booking form, to block spam bookings; a self-hosted instance runs it only if you configure it. Booking emails go through Postmark, which records delivery and opens but not clicks. A signed data processing agreement comes with the Enterprise plan only, not Free or Pro. If you would rather hold the data yourself, self-host Tymeslot on your own server.

Is Tymeslot a project management tool or CRM for developers?

No, Tymeslot is scheduling software for developers, not a project management tool or CRM: it has no tickets, time tracking or pipeline. It books calls, creates video links and sends reminders, and on Pro its signed webhooks pass every booking to the tools that do the rest.

Can developers take payment for a code review when it is booked?

Yes, Tymeslot lets developers charge a fixed fee for a code review or consultation when the client books, through their own Stripe account on Pro. The slot is confirmed only once payment clears, which also cuts no-shows on paid work. On the managed service a 0.5% platform fee applies on top of Stripe's fees; self-hosted, there is none. Free discovery calls can sit beside it, and reminder emails go out before both.

How does Tymeslot compare with Calendly for developers?

Tymeslot is open source under the GNU AGPLv3, so a developer can read the code and run it on their own server, and its booking pages load no ad trackers or third-party analytics. Calendly is a hosted service, and its own demo booking page loads third-party scripts from Stripe, reCAPTCHA and Airbrake. Tymeslot's managed service uses reCAPTCHA too, but loads it only once a client starts the booking form; self-hosted, it stays off unless you configure it. Calendly's free plan is limited to one event type and one calendar.

How do developers self-host Tymeslot?

Developers can self-host Tymeslot with the Docker image, on Cloudron or on Railway, and every feature is included without a licence fee. The app is written in Elixir and Phoenix and stores its data in PostgreSQL. The source is on GitHub under the GNU AGPLv3, so you can audit it, change it and run your own build.

Is Tymeslot free for freelance developers?

Yes, a freelance developer can embed Tymeslot on a portfolio, run discovery calls and private client syncs, and get video links in self-hosted Jitsi or MiroTalk, all on the free plan. Pro (€9/month) adds webhooks, Slack and Telegram alerts, custom questions, payments at booking and booking analytics, and removes Tymeslot branding. Self-hosting is free with everything included.

Which calendars and video tools does Tymeslot support for developers?

Developers can point Tymeslot at Google Calendar, Outlook or a CalDAV server such as Nextcloud or Radicale, and it creates video rooms in Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Jitsi, MiroTalk, kMeet or Nextcloud Talk. You can also set a custom link, such as a room on your own video server.
